For me it must be The Last Unicorn cartoon. It was a favorit of my mother. She has a very hard time reading so it wasn't untell much later in life. I can't remmber when was the first time I watched that cartoon. Though I also have to give credit to Bruce Coville's Into The Land of The Unicorns. It was one of the first books I read by meself. Like my mother I have Dislexia and it wasn't untell the fifth grade that I could read anything with much more substance then See Spot Run.
Not only have Unicorns blessed me with wonderful dreams they gave me something to work for. When I thought of all the stories of Unicorns I'd be able to know once I could read . . .
So what movies or books shaped your View of Unicorns? Any inspireing stories?

Hm...I can't really pinpoint precisely what it was. I do clearly recall hearing The Unicorn by The Irish Rovers on the radio as a child, and really loving the song. I couldn't get enough of it.

I think I had recently remembered some other Unicorn influence when I was a child, but I can't think of it right now. (My memory banks suck...)

Like SilverUnicorn, I too could not pinpoint it. I just remember really liking them as a kid as did many of the other little girls I knew. I had a pen pal for a little while and we would send letters on unicorn stationary. I also remember when I was about 8 someone got me into sticker collecting and some of my absolute favorites were unicorns. I remember in the fifth grade reading Madelin L'engal's A Wrinkle In Time. I remember going to carnivals as a kid and playing the darts at the baloons game. I almost always won the little glass pictures. I wound up getting a collection of about 30 of them mostly unicorns cause I didn't really like most of the others. I also remember that teddy bear collecting was a big thing when I was a kid and I've always prefered to not go with the majority and though unicorn collecting was popular it was nowhere near as popular as teddy bears. I realized pretty young that collecting what everybody else was had immediate increase in value but collecting what fewer people collected had lasting value because there would be fewer around later. I don't really collect unicorn stuff anymore, now I collect things that are Sun, Moon, & Stars. Finally, I also just really enjoyed the etherial, fantasy of unicorns.

Joy, while on the subject, this reminds me that I have a box of unicorn stuff including a bunch of the carnival glass's and a couple of books that I would like to give you next time we are up north or you make it down south. About 1/2 of the glass's are the older collectible ones where the decal is directly on the glass not a piece of cardboard behind glass. I will have to sort them out cause a few are broken and a few are not unicorns. Anyway, it may be awhile before we make it up north (we were hoping to make it up one weekend this season, but with gas prices... nough said), so let us know if you are comming down anytime soon.

Hey Gab, I'll email you about getting the Unicorn stuff? Since the last update, I can't access the private message part of a person's profile page, and I don't want to set this thread off in a different direction.

I remember doing sticker collections in elementary school! I had the best unicorn ones. My parents took me down to seattle once and I got the coolest stickers from one of the places we went to. Good memories. Now this one is a little stanger, I had a dream about 10 years ago that I gave birth to a white unicorn. As far as I know I was human in my dream. Now that kind of tripped me out.

You know what, the last unicorn was a big part of my life for a long time, but now i lean a bit more towards legend. But really, ever since my best lady left me, i'm not much into the one-pointers any more.

I think for me, unicorns were just big in the 80s, and I was a kid in the 80s. We had The Last Unicorn book/movie, unicorn stickers up the wazoo, the Serendipity books that featured a unicorn, etc. So for me, it was a cross between exposure and a rich imagination. Also, I love their gentle compassion and purity. I just love them.

Sometimes I buy stuffed animals-the small ones-and I was drawn to the unicorn stuffed animals. It is easier for me to relate to animals hhan humans sometimes.
