I'm so happy I found this tribe! Has anyone ever seen "Unico in the Island of Magic"? Or "The Adventures of Unico"? They were both animated by Osamu Tezuka, who also created Astroboy (among other features.) Both Unico films were dubbed in English and were brought to the US in the early 80's. Just wondering if anyone else has seen it.

Re: Has anyone ever seen the Unico (animated by Tezuka)?
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 3:18 AMWelcome. I'm glad the tribe is here for you to find. :)
I am sorry to say, that I have not seen them. I had not heard of them before, as far as I can recall. Thank you for the information. I will try to seek them out.
Might they be rentable?
I did manage to find a couple of pics. of Unico via Google Image search. I'm going to add them to the tribe photo album. -

Re: Has anyone ever seen the Unico (animated by Tezuka)?
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 10:48 AMIf you are really, really lucky, you might be able to rent them. You could possibly buy the films- but they're hard to find, and it can be costly. I was lucky enough to find both. Here's an interesting website I found that someone in Japan did about the Unico in the Island of Magic film. www.fujikoma.com/unico/
I think that these films encapsulate the energy of unicorns, but also have highly spiritual views on friendship, empathy, and humanitarianism. They also have a poignant reminder that nothing lasts forever.....
There's also a book by Ted Andrews on Unicorns, and there's a coffee table photo book that someone gave me called "Unicorns I Have Known" by Peter Vavra. Both are worth checking out. :) -

Re: Has anyone ever seen the Unico (animated by Tezuka)?
Thu, June 9, 2005 - 11:57 AMSince they are so hard to get~ does anyone have the DVD? Maybe they could make a copy and we could mail it to each other like a chain mail. We could each watch them and send them to the next person on the list.
That would be lots of fun and I would love to participate. I love Unicorn movies.

Thu, June 9, 2005 - 12:05 PMThere are actually tons of them available on E-bay. Are there any Unico videos that anyone reccomends the most? -

Re: Has anyone ever seen the Unico (animated by Tezuka)?
Tue, June 28, 2005 - 12:16 AMAs far as I know there are only 2 full-length English-dubbed Unico videos that were ever released in the US: "Unico and the Island of Magic" and "The Adventures of Unico." Both are excellent, with a wonderful soundtrack, artwork is amazing and ahead of its time (as with most Tezuka films) but the story is heartbreaking. So unlike most American animation where there's typically a "everyone lives happily everafter" ending so be prepared to shed a tear or two.
I seriously don't know why none of the studios have bothered to re-release them on both VHS & DVD considering the popularity. -
